John Travolta's son died

Posted by: karen in counselingcommunityabuse on

Is it sad to think that the minute I read that John Travolta's son had died in the media that I so quickly jumped to the conclusion that it was because of or at least linked to some type of drug use or addiction.  Of course as I kept reading the reason his young son passed away had absolutely nothing to do with drug use at all but with society as it is today I automatically assumed that because

The terrible tumble, from productive loving person to one who cheats, manipulates, steals, lies and harms others through words and deeds. How do drugs do this? It happens over and over again. In a way, it doesn't matter. It only matters that it can be undone. But it's not a quick fix. Not a 28 day repair. For one thing, the drug residues have to be flushed from the body in order for the person to

Any person that uses drugs will always stay with them in there fat cells. So even if a person gets sober they will still have cravings to do the drugs because it stays in there body. All twelve step programs do not treat this specific problem, because they do not have the technology to do so. People who are addicted to drugs need a program that can actually pull the drugs from within there body.

There are many different kinds of addictions out there. Such as drugs, alcohol, and even addictions to gambling or even compulsive shopping! And there is a way out!! Twelve-step programs are unfortunatly not a very good source to get off of drugs or anyother kind of addiction because on average they only have a 30 something pecent success rate. Addicts need a rehab that has a higher success

People who are abusing drugs or alcohol need to realize that you do not have very many choices left. Except that you will go to jail, die, or get sober; thats all there is to it no buts or whats about it!! Unfortuantly most twelve step programs do not have the technology to keep a person sober for the long run. People who are addicted need a program with a high success rate, life courses, and

I have been there done that, wrote the book and read back over it. I know what it takes to get away from addiction to any substance/drug.  People need a rehab with a high success rate and life

My blog about alcohol

How many times have I drunk alcohol to excess? I've been around too long to know accurately. But in the last tean years, not once. In the last twenty years, maybe three or four times. And why? Because I had stupid moments. Someone explain to me why drinking to excess is a good thing? You feel sick, you do stupid things, you can't drive, you endanger others. I've given it up. In fact for the last

When a person goes into treatment for alcohol, it's almost always more than a 28 day process. It takes that long really for the major part of the drug toxicity to pass off. So when is a person supposed to learn to make drug-free decisions when they have usually spent years or even decades making decisions to use drugs to solve problems in life? Some families who have been through a number of 28

It can start with someone just wanting to relax a little, not feel stressed, or maybe they want to party a little, loosen up. Maybe they are out with people who seem cool to them, who are doign something that seems adventurous and exciting. How exciting does the whole thing look when the person has done meth a few times and they can't quit? The cravings have taken over. Or when the young person

I have people tell me about other rehabs they have been to. My son told me about rehabs that teens had been to. They were out of the country in the Caribbean so the laws they operated under were different. They were lockups and the kids were not listened to, treatment was drugs and more drugs. How were the kids supposed to recover and learn to live drug free lives that way? He was appalled at the
