Is it sad to think that the minute I read that John Travolta's son had died in the media that I so quickly jumped to the conclusion that it was because of or at least linked to some type of drug use or addiction. Of course as I kept reading the reason his young son passed away had absolutely nothing to do with drug use at all but with society as it is today I automatically assumed that because
People get so stuck on the luxuriousness of the rehab facilities that they are going to. I think this is absolutely hilarious considering these are the same people who have stayed multiple nights at crack houses and slept in their own puke after shooting up a huge line of coke in their
Pain pills that are prescribed by doctors can be very helpful in managing pain when they are used correctly. When people get prescribed them and begin to abuse them they can become addicted very quickly. Just as soon as you are prescribed them you will begin to feel like you need them just to get by. Your body and your mind both feel this pull to the pills that is unlike anything else. This
Some times it takes people multiple times to understand howto handle their problems with drugs and alcohol. They may try to handle it through going to meeting, quitting on their own, or even just tapering off of the drugs or alcohol. On the other hand sometimes it only takes one time for someone to really get it and turn their life around. It is sometimes said that someone needs to hit their
My father was an alocholic yet I never knew it. I was so used to his behavior that i could never realize that it was because of the alcohol that he was acting in such a ridiculous manner. He was yelling at people and would constantly pick fights that didn't need to be even brought up. It was not until he checked into rehab that I got to see what an amazing man my father truly was. He was

There are many different types of rehab programs that people can attend in order to recieve help for addictions to drugs and alcohol. Some are inpatient and some outpatient. The difference between those is where the patient actually sleeps. Do they stay at the center such as a live in place? If the answer is yes then it is considered an inpatient program. The types of programs can also be

Most people have a gentle re-entry to ordinary life ahead of them when they get home. Few people are immune to any stimulus in their home environment. One woman wrote the story of how she re-adapted to life. A little at a time. She didn;t go anywhere she wasn't comfortable being. If she went somewhere and started being uncomfortable, she promptly left. As she was home longer and longer, her

The terrible tumble, from productive loving person to one who cheats, manipulates, steals, lies and harms others through words and deeds. How do drugs do this? It happens over and over again. In a way, it doesn't matter. It only matters that it can be undone. But it's not a quick fix. Not a 28 day repair. For one thing, the drug residues have to be flushed from the body in order for the person to

Most of the addicts I have seen get handled do so with the support of their families. Most people at the rehab where I work are not all alone. They have someone who cared enough to stick with them, maybe help them with financing or just support. It's one of those times of life that the value of loving and supporting one's family becomes very apparent. If you support them when they need it, you

I spent years trying to handle my son. I had so many people tell me what I should do and most of the suggestions were things i could not do. Or I knew they did not apply to him. I finally got him through a rehab while he was a teen. I'm glad I did it early before he got into real messes. The messes he was in then were bad enough. But I never gave up on the vision I knew should be achieved. And he
